Parenting - Colic Relief

My younger twin girl at 2 months old.

At that age, she already shows sign of a naughty and playful girl inherited from her father at his young age.

During the day, she is indeed a happy baby, sleeps and drinks and loves to bath and play in the water. When time comes to say goodnight, her nightmare begins.....

She will starts to cry and cry non-stop for hours until 3 to 4 am every night for myself and my hubby. It was our first time caring for babies and we really do not know what is wrong with her crying...... no matter how we console her, rock her, sing to her, still no difference; her crying is getting louder and stronger. The only thought we have at that moment was might be her stomach in pain and thus we just rub "yu yee oil" (Chinese traditional oil is used for relief of minor aches and pains of muscles and joints, symptoms of stomach ache and cold) on her stomach.... its helps but after a while the crying comes back.

After few nights of crying which we can't resist to see our precious baby in that condition every night, we decided to bring her to a pediatrician. The pediatrician confirmed that she is having colic which normally srikes baby at 2 months old. Colic drops have to be taken everyday and it really helps and reduces her crying. In addition, rubbing of "yu yee oil" on her stomach also relieves her stomach wind.

As an old Chinese saying: "Unfinished milk by baby should not be kept too long and re-warm for the baby to consume again. This may cause wind in the stomach."

We are also recommeded from the elders that consuming gripe water everyday after bath also can relief colic. We do try it and it really works. Slowly day by day until when Jynn is 4 months old, finally she has her good night sleep without anymore pain on her stomach which she has to suffer and go through for 2 months. Is indeed a great moment for myself, my hubby and also her twin sister, Lynn, who is always just keep quiet listening to her sister's crying every night without a moan which she knows that she can't do anything to help and console her younger sister.
